Dr. Shailendra Lalwani completed his basic medical education at Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur, and completed his postgraduate studies at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer, Rajasthan. Then he joined the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, as Diplomatic Member of the National Board of Examinations (DNB) in Gastrointestinal Surgery. He increased his experience in deceased donor liver transplantation and gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery by training at Kings College Hospital in London, UK.
With over 14 years of surgical experience, Dr. Lalwani has successfully performed more than 1000 liver transplants. His areas of expertise include various types of liver transplant procedures, including both deceased and living donor liver transplantation, for adults and children. Participate in a team that has achieved rare and innovative breakthroughs in liver transplantation, such as combined liver-kidney transplantation, double-donor lobe transplantation (use of liver lobes from two donors), and living-donor liver transplantation in unique cases, such as young children, AIDS patients, and pregnant women Women who suffer from acute liver failure, people who suffer from full-body hemorrhage, and autistic children. He also participated in the first successful living donor liver transplant with open heart operation in a child.
Over his vast experience, Dr. Lalwani has performed around 10,000 complex surgeries related to the digestive system, liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract and intestines (open, laparoscopic and robotic). These procedures include liver resections, removal of the esophagus, surgeries of the stomach, duodenum, small bowel, colon, rectum, ductus venosus for portal hypertension, biliary tract surgeries, gallbladder cancer, biliary stenosis and reflux.
He is expert in performing all gastrointestinal surgeries, hepatectomy, pancreatectomy and open, laparoscopic and robotic biliary tract surgeries as needed.
In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Lalwani has contributed significantly to the medical literature through several national and international publications. He has also served as an accredited instructor and mentor for the Postgraduate National Diploma Program (Gastrointestinal Surgery) and has been a respected member of the editorial board of several journals, including: Journal of Organ Transplantation, Journal of Biological Research (Hong Kong), Gastroenterology & Liver for SM Journals, and Journal of Gastroenterology & Liver and pancreas.
